CELEBRATING MORE THAN 75 YEARS

From a single milk truck in 1946 to 3,500 trucks today, Marten Transport, Ltd. is an American success story. Scroll our timeline for the highlights that made us an international transportation leader with over 20 locations stretching from Mexico to Canada and California to Florida.

1946

Roger Marten founded Marten Transport, Ltd. at the age of 17, delivering milk and other dairy products from the Modena Co-op Creamery. He purchased his first truck route with a $400 loan from his mother.

1950

Roger Marten expanded his milk delivery routes, purchased and drove school buses, and hauled petroleum products with his first tractor-trailer.

1956

First tractor-trailer combo purchased.

1960s

First tandem axle trailer purchased. Dry Vans are added to the fleet as well.

1965

Mondovi, WI was home to Marten's first terminal. Randy Marten joins the company and Roger Marten focuses on developing the interstate carrier business serving customers in the Midwest and West Coast

1974

Marten moves into interstate hauling with refrigerated trailers

1980

The trucking industry is deregulated allowing Marten Transport to grow based on their excellent reputation. Terminals are added in California, Georgia, and Oregon.

1986

Marten is publicly traded on NASDAQ, Randy Marten is named president of Marten Transport.

1989

Marten moves to all refrigerated trailers.

1993

Marten Transport suffered a tragic loss when Roger Marten passed away. There are still many driving, office, and terminal employees working at Marten who were hired by Roger.

1993

Randy is named CEO of Marten Transport. Satellite tracking systems added to the fleet to improve communication.

1996

Marten celebrates 50 years in business and opens the Roger Marten Community Center in Mondovi, WI

2000

Marten is named to Forbes Top 200 Best Small Businesses in American.

2005

Marten expanded into Intermodal & Brokerage and transitions from over the road to regional operations. Randy Marten earns Ernst & Young’s Entrepreneur of the Year Award for transportation in the Wisconsin Region.

2007

$16 million commitment to add APUs to the fleet. New maintenance facility in Mondovi, WI

2008

Marten Refrigerated expands into Mexico.

2014

Marten Transport purchases their 10,000th Utility Trailer.

2016

Marten expands to dry van.

2021

All terminals become solar powered.

2022

Marten Dry Van Expands into Mexico.

2024

Marten introduces their first electric vehicle.
